Take an International Adventure in Cuisine

Whether you are a brave foodie who hunts down a new restaurant to try every weekend or you stick to ham on rye for every meal, the 10th Anniversary Events DC Embassy Chef Challenge is a delicious adventure you should experience! This year, chefs from more than 25 embassies will showcase mouth-watering morsels from their home countries.

We live in a vibrant city that has 177 embassies from around the globe, so it makes sense to get to know one another’s culture, beliefs, and – yes – favorite food and drink! Presented by the Trade Center Management Associates (TCMA), the Events DC Embassy Chef Challenge has been part of Passport DC, a month-long celebration of Washington DC’s diplomatic community, since 1989. The event lets you get a peek into the kitchens of the amazing chefs that cook for ambassadors and their families and staff.

At the Challenge, you will find sample plates prepared by embassy chefs so that you can eat a little here and a little there without getting too full. Pair the plates with exotic wines, beers, cocktails and beverages and you will be on cloud nine! The festivities don’t stop with the food. You will enjoy internationally-flavored music and dance performances during the evening. Come prepared to take a culinary journey around the world!

While you are sipping and sampling, take note of which plates appeal to you most because you will be able to vote on your favorite! The People's Choice winner is selected by event guests and will be announced along with the Judge’s Choice winner after everyone has had plenty of time to sample the sips and bites.

The main goal of the annual event is to bring everyone together to “break bread,” and to experience the cultural diversity and inclusion that has been at the forefront of the Events DC Embassy Chef Challenge since it started a decade ago. We may not think about it every day, but food plays a big part in bringing people together. When you experience meals that others consider to be “traditional” in their culture, you begin to understand each other’s similarities and differences.
