Memorializing the Lives of our Fallen Police Officers

Show your support of our brave service individuals! Join your neighbors, friends, and family in two very special events: by lacing up your real or virtual running shoes for the National Police Week 5K race and by attending the very touching Unity Tour Arrival Ceremony.

The number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty dropped sharply in 2017 to its second-lowest point in more than 50 years. Still, 129 officers made the ultimate sacrifice last year. Their lives, and those of all their fallen brothers and sisters, will be memorialized during National Police Week, which kicks off May 12.

When you register to walk or run in The National Police Week 5K race, you’re teaming up with thousands of others, young and old, who come together to honor the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. Can’t make the race or worried the distance is too far? You can still participate as a Virtual Runner and show your support wherever you are. The race is May 12, starting at 9 am at 4th and F Street NW. Register here.

That afternoon, make your way to the National Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial to welcome the riders of the Police Unity Tour. The nearly 20-year-old annual event began with 18 riders coming from New Jersey to the District. Now, more than 2,500 members make the bike trip each year. The event raises funds for the Museum and Memorial –$23 million altogether since 1997.

The Arrival Ceremony begins at 2 pm.
