In Other News: Safeway Feast of Sharing

Thousands will flock to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on November 22 to celebrate the gratitude of the season over a meal with friends and neighbors. Safeway and Events DC mark their 18th year of giving thanks through a Feast of Sharing.

The Feast of Sharing is a District-wide community event for people in need, senior citizens and other DC residents interested in fellowshipping with others. Feast of Sharing includes a plated holiday meal prepared by Convention Center’s exclusive caterer Centerplate, a community services and health expo, live entertainment, and door prizes. Events DC stakeholders are welcome to attend this free pre-Thanksgiving event.

We are so grateful for the generosity and ongoing commitment of Safeway and other local partners who make this important event a bountiful Thanksgiving tradition in the District.

The Feast of Sharing serves DC residents from all eight of the city’s wards. In years past, the event has drawn more than 5,000 residents.

This year’s event on November 22 features a festive holiday meal, a community services expo, free flu shots and diabetes testing, and a clothing giveaway. Doors open at 9:30am, and the turkey dinner will be served from 11:30am until 1:00pm.

The spirit of the season is evident at this event, where neighbors stand side-by-side to lend a helping hand or a word of encouragement to all who attend. Community partners and more than 1,000 volunteers help make this remarkable event a success year after year, bringing hope to neighbors in need. They are ready to serve, wanting everyone to enjoy a warm turkey dinner this Thanksgiving. In addition to a warm meal, guests will be treated to a lineup of entertainers as well as free health services and clothing.

Do you and your family need a ride? Safeway provides free shuttle buses to the event from several DC Safeway locations, as well as from select senior centers around the city. The Washington Veterans Affairs Medical Center will provide transportation for veterans from the VA Hospital and other locations.
