Event Recap: RFK Campus Block Party

Events DC teamed up with DC-metro Visual Artist Lawrence “Naturel” Atoigue to renovate the Skate Park at RFK Stadium with a magnificent full-surface mural incorporating geometric patterns and covered with the colors of all DC sports teams in every inch of concrete!

The RFK Campus Block Party was both the culminating event of the completion of a six-week beautification project as well as a community appreciation celebration.

Music filled the air as bands performed, dancers danced, and professional and amateur skaters showed off their skills with airborne feats for all to enjoy. Partygoers were also treated to pole vaulting demonstrations and lessons at the site next to the park.
From all of us at Events DC, we’d like to extend a big thanks to all of you who came out to celebrate on August 20 at the Skate Park at RFK Stadium.
Naturel is a visual artist with a long list of celebrity clients and brands including Jay-Z, LeBron James, and Puma. The new surface mural is a huge hit, and skaters grabbed their boards and made a pass or two to celebrate with us. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the mural’s creation.
This event was made possible through the support of Blind Whino, AllBurgundy, KIND, Metropolitan Office Products, Mountain Dew, RCN, and the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum. Thank you to musicians and performers Black Alley, Ace Oni, Toyz aRe Us, DJ Flava, Mountain Dew Skate Team's Chris Colbourne and Jordan Maxham, the Skate Girls Tribe and DC Vault. We’d also like to extend thanks to our special guests Darren Harper and the Shaw Boyz.
