Did You Know? This month in RFK Stadium History

The Beatles rocked RFK Stadium on August 15, 1966!  Over 32,000 screaming fans watched the legendary group just after they released the Revolver album – which Rolling Stone magazine has ranked the third best album of all time!

Beatlemania raged across the US in the 1960s as the “Fab Four” from Liverpool transformed the face of music. Their performance on the Ed Sullivan Show was watched by a third of the US, as their popularity became almost universal with the younger generation, including DC teens. The Beatles embarked on this US tour demanding that all of their audiences be integrated.

Crowds screamed so loudly that, even with upgraded equipment, the group struggled to have their music heard. So they decided to stop touring. Just two weeks after the concert at RFK Stadium, the Beatles performed their last concert for the paying public at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park but continued recording for another three years.
