Asphalt to Action Update: We are #RFKReady

While we were sorry to see D.C. United move from RFK, we are excited about their move to the new Audi Stadium this summer—and even more excited because the move allows us to make some additional progress on Asphalt to Action!

Plans are really taking shape for transforming the 190-acre campus into a more inviting environment with green space that residence and visitors can enjoy.

Check out one area of recent progress in this transformation by visiting the new DC Vault training facility located at the northwest corner of 22nd and East Capitol near RFK Stadium. The club welcomes entry-level pole vaulters and elite athletes of all ages to train at this brand-new, state-of-the-art site. There are new runways, vault pads, strength and conditioning areas, a customized storage container and more at this premiere pole vault club training site. Just last month, Olympic champions and Olympic hopefuls were in attendance as DC Vault hosted a “Launch Event” for the new site and received overwhelmingly positive responses about the equipment.

An Advisory Committee is being formed to guide other plans through completion. Other short-term projects we are working on include:

  • Sports & Recreation Complex. We are reviewing proposals we received this summer from development teams and operators.
  • Market Hall. We continue to solicit proposals from development teams and operators.
  • Robert F. Kennedy Memorial. We are working with our partners to develop a conceptual design and fundraising plan for the new interactive memorial.

This year we started the transition from “Asphalt to Action” at the RFK Campus, and you have been a driving force in making it happen! Thank you for showing that you are #RFKReady in 2018. If you haven’t already pledged your support of the redevelopment, please add your name to the 2,300 signatures on the petition to Congress at

We will provide the latest and greatest information about the “Asphalt to Action” plan at the next RFK Campus Quarterly Meeting, Monday, August 27 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Please register here. We look forward to seeing you.  Invite and bring your neighbors too!
